(Re)conciliation

One of my challenges with the word ‘reconciliation,’ just as a word, is that it suggests we’re repairing a once-functioning relationship. I’m not sure that’s what we’re really doing. I would suggest that we’ve never really had a functioning relationship so what we need is conciliation, the building of that functioning relationship, not repairing what was there”. - Jesse Wente, Ojibwe Journalist and Activist

We do our work on the ancestral territories of Indigenous nations.

We acknowledge with respect and gratitude that we are based on the unceded, ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and sel̓íl̓witulh peoples, and that we do our work on the territories of many nations across Turtle Island (North America).

The work of (re)conciliation is the context in which we do our work.

As a settler business operating on unceded Indigenous lands, it is our responsibility to share power back with the Indigenous nations on who’s territories we do our work.

Further to this, we recognize how much we have learned working alongside brilliant Indigenous people across Turtle Island (North America). For example, we often start our facilitation sessions in circle to ensure every voice is equal, an approach that we have learned from work with many nations across BC.

In recognition of our own histories, how Indigenous knowledge systems and communities have inspired us in our own work, and upholding ethics of reciprocity & solidarity, we are committed to advancing (re)conciliation, decolonization and the resurgence of Indigenous nations in all the ways that we are able to.

This includes:

  1. Uplifting Indigenous voices and leadership within our work.

  2. Promoting cultural safety in our work and amongst the people we work with.

  3. Economic reconciliation - To ensure that our success is bound with Indigenous resurgence, 2% of annual gross sales is redistributed to support Indigenous-led language & cultural revitalization across the territories that we do our work.

  4. Advancing transformative change - Supporting our clients to locate the work we do together within the work of reconciliation and decolonization.

We want to empower people who are leading important conversations for a brighter future.
